"Deliver me, O Jesus,
From the desire of being
From the desire of being extolled,
From the desire to
From the desire of being praised,
desire of being preferred,
From the desire of being consulted,
From the desire of being approved,
From the desire of being
From the fear of being humiliated,
From the fear of
From the fear of suffering rebukes,
fear of being calumniated,
From the fear of being forgotten,
From the fear of being wronged,
From the fear of being
From the fear of being suspected.
"Dear Jesus, help us to spread Your fragrance
everywhere we go.
Flood our souls with Your spirit and life.
Penetrate and possess our whole being, so utterly,
lives may only be a radiance of Yours.
Shine through us, and be so
That every soul we come in contact with may feel Your
presence in our soul.
Let them look up and see no longer us, but
Stay with us, and then we shall begin to shine as You
So to shine as to be a light to others.
The light O Jesus
will be all from You, none of it will be ours;
It will be You,
shining on others through us.
Let us thus praise You without
preaching, not by words but by our example,
By the catching force,
the sympathetic influence of what we do,
The evident fullness of the
love our hearts bear to You. Amen."
"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
there is hatred let me sow love;
where there is injury,
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair,
where there is sadness, joy.
Lord, may I not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to
to be loved as to love.
Because it is in giving that
in pardoning that we are pardoned. Amen."
- When I was hungry, you gave me food.
When I was thirsty you
gave me drink.
Whatsoever you do to the least of my brethren, you do
it to Me.
When I was a stranger, you opened your doors.
When I was naked, you gave me clothes.
When I was tired, you gave
When I was frightened, you calmed me down.
When I was
lonely, you gave me your love.
When I was sick or wounded, you took
care of me.
Looking for friendship, you gave me your hand.
was old, you smiled at me.
When I couldn't find peace, you
brought it to me.
You were on my side in times of despair, and in the
hour of joy, we were together. Amen
Mother Teresa's United Nations
(Mother Teresa composed this prayer for the
United Nations International Year of the Family)
"Heavenly Father, you have given us a model of life
in the Holy Family of Nazareth. Help us, O loving Father to make our
family another Nazareth where love, peace and joy reign. May it be
deeply contemplative, intensely Eucharistic and vibrant with joy. Help
us to stay together in joy and sorrow through family prayer. Teach us to
see Jesus in the members of our family especially in their distressing
disguise. May the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus make our hearts meek and
humble like His and help us to carry out our family duties in a holy
way. May we love one another as God loves each one of us more and more
each day, and forgive each other's faults as You forgive our sins. Help
us, O loving Father to take whatever You give and to give whatever You
take with a big smile. Immaculate Heart of Mary, cause of our joy, pray
for us. St. Joseph, pray for us. Holy Guardian Angels be always with us,
guide and protect us. Amen."
- Mary, Mother of Jesus, give me your heart so beautiful, so
pure, so immaculate,
so full of love and humility that I may be able
to receive Jesus in the Bread of Life,
love Him as You loved Him,
and serve Him as You served Him,
in the distressing disguise of the
poorest of the poor. Amen.
- Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be
Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work too may be holy
my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy
O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy
Guide me then, O Holy
Spirit, that I always may be holy. Amen
- Remember, o most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known
that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought
your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence we fly
to You, o virgin of the virgins, our Mother. To you we come, before you
we stand sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the word incarnate, despise
not our petitions, but in your clemency, hear and answer us.
- Lead me from death to life,
from lies to truth
from despair to hope
from fear to trust
Lead me from hatred to
from war to peace
Let peace fill our heart, our world
universe with peace. Amen
- Make us worthy, Lord, to serve our fellow men throughout the
world, who live and die in poverty and hunger. Give them today, through
our hands, their daily bread and through our understanding love, give
peace and joy. Amen
- Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord with with thee,
art thou among women,
and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb,
Holy Mary, mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
at the hour of our death. Amen
