MY PERFECT TEACHER EXPLAINS KARMA

The complete virtuous action of living in the morality abstaining from the negative karma of gossiping has four happy results:

(1) the fully ripened result: You will receive a good rebirth in the body of a happy migrator being in the human or deva realms instead of rebirth in the suffering lower realms.

(2) experiencing the result similar to the previous cause: In the place in the human realm where you are born in the future people will listen to you and trust your words; your words will have power. You will not experience others not listening to you or trusting your words even when you are trying to tell the truth. You will not experience constant disturbances and difficulties caused by others constantly misunderstanding your words.

(3) the possessed result: The place in the human realm where you are born in the future will be a luxuriant glorious environment. You will not have to experience a place where plants and trees do not bear fruit, where the fruit may appear ripe when it is not, where roots are not stable, where the crops do not last long, and where the forests are unpleasant, dark, and frightening. In your environment there will not be swamps, many fenced in places, or many reasons to have fear.

(4) creating the result similar to the previous cause of living in the morality abstaining from gossiping: In future lives you will again be able to collect good karma by living in the morality abstaining from gossiping. This means you will be able to stop giving harm to others and to yourself in this way.

The complete virtuous action of living in the morality abstaining from the negative karma of covetousness has four happy results:

(1) the fully ripened result: You will receive a good rebirth in the body of a happy migrator being in the human or deva realms instead of rebirth in the suffering lower realms.

(2) experiencing the result similar to the previous cause: When you are reborn in the future, you will be free of strong desire. You will be easily satisfied no matter what or how much you get. You will be free of dissatisfaction: you will be content even if what you wish for doesn’t happen, and you will be satisfied if it does. Again here you can see that the best solution for the covetous, dissatisfied mind is practicing morality and abstaining from covetousness. Your mind becomes peaceful and content, gaining inner happiness and complete satisfaction. Not only does whatever you wish for brings happiness, but you receive whatever you wish for. At the same time in your mind there is inner happiness; you become peaceful, content, and satisfied.

(3) the possessed result: In the future when one is born in the human realm, you will not have to experience an environment in which all the perfections of the place; crops, beautiful objects, and qualities, decrease instead of increasing, month by month, day by day. Because of living in the morality abstaining from covetousness, you will not experience an environment of decreasing perfections and qualities, but will experience just the opposite.

(4) creating the result similar to the previous cause of living in the morality abstaining from covetousness: In future lives you will again be able to collect good karma by living in the morality abstaining from covetousness. This means you will be able to stop giving harm to others and to yourself in this way.
